1 What is a brachycephalic breed?
Brachycephalic breeds are those with short noses and flat faces including:
- Pugs
- French Bulldogs
- Shih Tzus
- Boston Terriers
- English Bulldogs
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
- Boxers
- Persian cats
- Exotic/British Shorthair cats.
2 Why are they so prone to eye problems?
Brachycephalic breeds are predisposed to eye problems and may have several issues at the same time, hence the term ‘brachycephalic ocular syndrome’. Common eye conditions that Brachycephalic breeds may suffer from could include Dry Eye, Corneal irritation/ulcers, Tear overflow and staining.
